Wales Fertility Institute – Neath

Wales Fertility Institute - Neath has been licensed by us since 2013 and offers all fertility treatments, including embryo testing.

We are in the process of updating the data on our Choose a Fertility Clinic pages in stages. Please note the date of the information shown on each clinic’s page. This update is a large project requiring clinics to check data for over 420,000 cycles. Once complete in late 2025, you will be able to see full data on treatments, pregnancies and births from January 2022 to December 2024.

The Choose a Fertility Clinic ‘detailed statistics’ pages show data on births from 2018 and pregnancies from 2019. Clinics may have their own more recent data, which shouldn’t be compared with a national average because clinics will show their data in a variety of ways and their data remains unverified by the HFEA.

Clinic profile accordion

We inspect all clinics against our standards. This clinic's inspection rating is:

Overall score for 4

4 / 5

All clinics must have a licence to operate. Our inspectors visit the clinic and look at the laboratory and equipment, the clinic’s consent and other procedures and the patient information. We also interview patients for their views. We use the inspector’s assessment to decide how long the licence should be. This determines the rating.

Last inspection: 18 January 2023

Licensed until: 31 July 2026

We ask current and former patients to rate the clinic based on their experience. This clinic’s patient rating is:

Find out a clinic’s IVF/ICSI rates for births per embryo transferred for all treatment types, and a separate figure for stimulated fresh own egg cycles only as well as the clinic’s multiple birth rate. For greater detail on clinic performance see their detailed statistics below. You could look at other data such as pregnancy and birth rates per cycle of treatment and per embryo transferred (please note all detailed statistics data is currently from 2018/19 and will be updated in late 2025).

Remember, whatever measure you focus on it can’t tell you your individual chance of success (only your doctor can do that), but each measure does give you a fair overall view of the clinic’s performance.

We show the number of births per embryo transferred as it promotes embryo transfer practices that minimise the chances of twins, which carry health risks for the babies and the mother. We calculate the overall average births per embryo transferred for all treatments at the clinic (including fresh cycles, frozen transfers, treatments using donor eggs, and treatment using PGT-A) and also for the subset of fresh stimulated embryos involving the patient’s own eggs.

However, this measure does not incorporate the outcomes of patients who do not reach embryo transfer stage.

For some people, having twins may seem like a wonderful thing, but multiple pregnancies are less safe for both mother and babies. That’s why we’ve set a target for all clinics to have a multiple birth rate of 10% or lower – see how they’re performing below. The professional bodies have best practice guidelines to assist clinics in determining when a single embryo should be transferred and the factors which can make double embryo transfer appropriate.

National rate

It may be tempting to obsess over success rates, but the most important thing to focus on is whether the clinic’s results are consistent with the national average. Try not to read anything into differences of a few percentage points above or below the national average, as these are often down to chance rather than being a reflection of a clinic’s abilities.

Reliability range

The reliability range shows how confident we are that a clinic will repeat its success rate in the future – the narrower the range, the more confident we can be. Large clinics normally have a narrower reliability range. That’s not because their data is more accurate but because their rate is less likely to be affected by small changes in the number of births in one year. Small clinics aren’t worse but their success rate is more likely to be affected by these kinds of changes.

There are two rates shown for births per embryo transferred. The first one shows the chance of having a baby per embryo transferred, when you take all the different types of treatment into account. Some treatment types might affect this figure, for example by increasing the rate. In particular, if a clinic carries out a number of cycles using donor eggs and/or PGT-A that is higher than the national average, it can be harder to compare the clinic’s rate against the UK average and against other clinics. Where this is the case, we have noted this on the clinic’s page.

For PGT-A, this is because the headline figure is per embryo transferred. In PGT-A, embryos are selected by looking for abnormalities in their chromosomes, as embryos that appear to have missing or extra chromosomes have less chance of a developing into a baby. Patients having embryos transferred with a normal chromosome number may therefore have a higher chance of having a baby from that particular embryo. However, the test often reduces the number of embryos available for transfer and may mean that there are no embryos to transfer. PGT-A occasionally leads to the exclusion of an embryo that would in fact have developed normally. This means while the chance of a baby per embryo transferred may be higher, if we look at the chance of having a baby for each cycle of treatment started, it may be lower. Evidence shows that for most patients starting treatment, PGT-A does not improve the chances of having a baby. For more information about PGT-A please see our add-ons page

Also, the chance of having a baby with IVF using donor eggs is generally higher compared with IVF using a patient’s own eggs, particularly if they are older than 38. This is because the health and age of the egg donor influences the chance of a baby being born. Egg donors are screened and are under the age of 36, so there is a higher chance of a baby being born, especially for patients who are older, have poor quality eggs, or produce a low number of eggs. More information about treatment with donor eggs can be found here

If a clinic has a higher-than-average number of cycles using PGT-A or donor eggs, this will be stated below.

Detailed Statistics (please note this relates to data from 2019 – this will be updated in late 2025)

Many patients would like more information on the overall performance of the clinic they are interested in. Our detailed statistics page allows you to tailor your search to better reflect your personal circumstances, but remember the more precisely you specify your treatment options the smaller the numbers of past patients and the potentially less reliable the results.

Our detailed statistics allows you to search for more age groups and to look at pregnancy and birth rates by two measures: birth per cycle started and births per embryo transferred.

Until the detailed statistics are updated in late 2025, we also advise patients to speak to their clinics for more information.

There are many reasons why patients may not reach the embryo transfer stage and the merit of this rate is that it reflects the outcomes for all patients undergoing treatment from the start of ovarian stimulation onwards.

In this section you can see the pregnancy rate per IUI treatment using partner sperm.
