Social media moderation policy

The following guidelines relate to the HFEA social media channels. This includes Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, and YouTube.

Moderation guidelines

While we encourage engagement with our channels, the HFEA does not tolerate online abuse. These guidelines are in place to ensure that our channels are a safe space for our audiences.

We monitor all comments, mentions, and direct messages and reserve the right to delete and/or report any inappropriate or offensive content.

This might include:

  • Spreading of false and dangerous information
  • Content that is abusive and/or offensive to either the HFEA, its target audience(s), or its staff
  • Content that uses HFEA data to create a narrative that incites blame or hatred
  • Content that criticises the HFEA and its regulation of fertility treatment
  • Content that is distasteful, including swearing and obscenity
  • Consistently negative content aiming to provoke a response
  • Content that breaches patient confidentiality

We run five social media accounts:
