Update to the Code of Practice
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) recently published new General Directions in relation to the requirements for transfers, imports and exports of gametes and embryos (D.2008/1, D.2008/2, D.2008/3 and D.2008/4). As a result, a number of amendments to the 7th Edition of our Code of Practice have been agreed in order to provide relevant Guidance on those requirements.
I am therefore pleased to enclose the Code of Practice Update containing these amendments.
The Update contains revised pages that should be inserted into your hard copy Code of Practice with the old pages taken out and destroyed. A detailed checklist of the revised pages and instructions for incorporating them into the hard copy of your Code of Practice is enclosed with this letter. You should record on this checklist that you have updated your Code of Practice and retain the checklist in the front of the folder.
The Update will take effect from 16th June 2008.
The online version of the Code of Practice incorporates all of the changes outlined and is available on our website.
The key changes are summarised below:
- Guidance 9.8 of the Code has been updated so that it accurately reflects the requirements in the new Directions in order to support centres in meeting their mandatory requirements; and
- Web links to the new Directions and supporting documents (transfer notification and special direction application forms) and appropriate cross-references between Standards and Guidance are now provided.
