Authority meeting - September 1998
A summary of the meeting of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority in September 1998
At its September meeting the Chairman reported on the matters raised at the recent joint HFEA/RCOG meeting that was attended by herself, the Deputy Chairman and the Chief Executive. Among the issues discussed were the storage of ovarian and testicular tissue, the redevelopment of the HFEA's data register and the HFEA's review of its public literature.
Among the substantive topics considered at this meeting was an options paper suggesting changes to the HFEA's system for collection of licence fee income. The HFEA agreed that the proposed principles of a revised system should be discussed further with the Department of Health and the Treasury before further detailed work was done.
The HFEA also did further work on the draft HGAC/HFEA report to Ministers on cloning. In addition, the HFEA approved the work being taken forward by its Information Committee and its Communication Steering Group in redeveloping its public literature with particular reference to its Patients' Guide. The HFEA also reviewed its approach to aspects of its collection of data.
