Our long-term trend data can be analysed in many ways. We have presented the key trends in the patients treated, the use of different treatments and the birth rates over time.
We will continue to expand the type and depth of analysis we do in the future.

How we gathered the data
Clinics are required by law to provide information to the HFEA Register about all licensed fertility treatments they carry out.
The Register started operating in August 1991 and is a rich source of information about assisted reproductive technologies (ART), its outcomes and the factors that contribute to the birth of a baby following treatment.
- The HFEA Register now contains information about 558,564 in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) (and subzonal insemination - SUZI) treatment cycles started between August 1991 and December 2007.
- The Register also contains information about 200,544 treatment cycles involving donor insemination (DI).
