HFEA announcement re. Chief Executive Officer

At 1500 on Monday 18th November, the HFEA issued the following statement:

Following a unanimous vote of no confidence by its members, the Chairman of the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (´the Authority'), Ms Suzi Leather, has decided to ask Dr. Maureen Dalziel to step down as Chief Executive. Dr. Dalziel will therefore be leaving the Authority with effect from 18th November 2002. Ms Leather has asked Ms Angela McNab to act as Chief Executive on an interim basis until a substantive appointment is made.

Ms Leather said:

´I am not at liberty to discuss the vote of no confidence, but I can assure you that there are no implications of personal impropriety and the matter is not related to the Authority's investigation of incidents at licensed centres.'
