HFEA Statement on acquittal of Mr Robert Bates

It is not possible to comment on the acquittal of Mr Bates or on matters relating to the case, in view of outstanding criminal prosecution against another person.

From the start, the HFEA's primary concern has been for the welfare of patients consistent with the interests of justice.  A scientific report commissioned by the HFEA is being/has been released to the North Hampshire NHS Trust and Hampshire Clinic.  Its contents cannot be published until the end of the criminal proceedings (refer to above).
