2005-12-13: Between 1 April 2001 and 31 March 2002, 8,837 babies were born in the UK as a result of in vitro fertilisation (IVF); 855 babies were born as a result of donor insemination (DI).

These figures have not been published in the past, as they have not been verified with clinics. It is possible that they will be subject to change following the completion of the HFEA Register modernisation programme at the end of March 2006.

2005-12-15: No oocytes were used during the first six months of research licence R0158. Professor Wilmut has not yet commenced this programme of research owing to his move to the University of Edinburgh.
