Expert group meetings

The group meets every two months and will conclude in Autumn 2006, when it will make recommendations to the HFEA. The dates for the meetings are:

Meeting 1: 27 October 2005

This was an introductory meeting at which the group discussed the aim and the scope of the project. Group members also discussed the incidence of multiple births and their physical, psychological and practical impact upon mothers, babies and families.

Meeting 2: 22 December 2005

Clinicians from Sweden, Belgium and the Netherlands gave presentations about their experience of trying to reduce the incidence of multiple births following IVF. The group discussed the lessons that could be learned from the experience in these countries and whether they can be applied to the UK.

Meeting 3: 9 February 2006
The main issue discussed was the availability of NHS funding for IVF in the UK. The group also considered how a move towards transferring one embryo in some patients during IVF might impact upon both NHS and self-funded patients.
