The HFEA has released a statement following the sealing of the consent order relating to the ARGC.
The number of women having successful in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment topped 10,000 for the first time in 2006, according to new figures released by the HFEA today. There were 10,242 births resulting in 12,596 babies in 2006, an increase of 13.1% on the number of births in 2005.
The HFEA today welcomed the judgement reaffirming the provisions of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act which requires a person to provide written consent before gametes (eggs and sperm) can be stored lawfully.
