08-10-2008: HFEA figures reveal more than 10,000 women had successful IVF treatment in 2006

The number of women having successful in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment topped 10,000 for the first time in 2006, according to new figures released by the HFEA today. There were 10,242 births resulting in 12,596 babies in 2006, an increase of 13.1% on the number of births in 2005.

07-10-2008: Statement on the judgement in the L case

The HFEA today welcomed the judgement reaffirming the provisions of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act which requires a person to provide written consent before gametes (eggs and sperm) can be stored lawfully.
