Code of Practice 7th edition

The last edition of the HFEA Code of Practice was published in January 2004, and we are working now on the 7th edition.  We are consulting on the content of the Code ? this does not represent any changes to HFEA policy, it incorporates guidance published since the previous edition of the Code and the merging of the Code with the HFEA Standards for assisted conception centres required under the Directive.

This consultation closed on the 12 December 2006.

For more information see the Code of Practice policy review page

Annual Fees for Centres Licensed under the European Tissues and Cells Directive

As competent authority for reproductive cells under the EU Tissue and Cells Directive (EUTD), the HFEA's regulatory remit is being extended to include the licensing of services involving fresh gametes such as intra uterine insemination (IUI) and gamete intra-fallopian transfer (GIFT). Under the EUTD, additional requirements are being introduced for all centres, including implementation of a quality management system.

There is no additional funding available for the extension of the HFEA's role, and the cost of inspection and licensing under the EUTD must be covered from fees collected from those centres requiring a licence.

The scope of this consultation covers annual and licence renewal fees which will be chargeable for all centres coming into the regulatory framework from April 2007.
