SEED Guidance

The SEED guidance was published on the 31st January 2006 and implemented on the 1 April 2006. 

 
The SEED Report

The SEED Report represented the culmination of the most substantial and thoroughgoing review of donor-assisted conception regulation in the UK since the 1990 HFE Act became law.  The full report, released on the 7th October is available on the website.

The outcomes of the review include:

  • A move towards the adoption of professional standards for donor screening .
  • Greater clarity around the number of families that may created using each donor and new guidance to help centres avoid exceeding this limit.
  • New Directions on the reimbursement of donors' expenses and compensation for loss of earnings.
  • Amendments to the guidance on egg sharing.
  • Clarification of the HFEA's policy on authorising imports and exports of gametes and embryos.
