
The HFEA Authority meets 9 times a year to discuss and determine HFEA policy and practice. The Authority meetings are based around draft papers which have been reviewed by HFEA committees. The Authority currently has 19 members.
The HFEA's Ethics and Law Advisory Group meets four times a year to review social, ethical and legal issues arising from, or affecting, activities in which the HFEA has an interest.
The HFEA's Scientific and Clinical Advances Group meets up to four times a year to review scientific and clinical developments affecting activities in which the HFEA has an interest, and provides recommendations about these developments to inform HFEA policy formulation.
The Licence Committees of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority are the gatekeepers for all licensed activities in this field. The Committees' decisions about licensing particular treatments or research projects are made within a legal framework set out by Parliament. Only Authority members can sit on Licence Committees. Meetings take place about 30 times each year.
The HFEA's Regulation Committee meets up to 10 times a year to oversee the work of the HFEA in relation to the licensing and inspection of treatment, storage and research facilities, and the operation of the HFEA Code of Practice.
The HFEA's Audit Committee meets no fewer than 3 times a year and its function is to advise and make recommendations to the Authority and its Chief Exective as Accounting Officer on all matters relating to corporate governance. This includes; internal control, risk management, internal and external audit and compliance with financial reporting requirements.
The HFEA's Information and Communications Committee meets 4 times a year. The function of the Committee is to oversee the Authority's communications and provision of information to its various stakeholders.
The HFEA's Resources Committee meets up to 6 times a year to oversee the management of the HFEA (including business strategy, objectives and development). Reports and recommendations are made from the Committee to the Authority as appropriate.
The HFEA's Strategy Committee meets up to 3 times a year. Its function is to provide a high level strategic decision-making and co-ordination forum within the HFEA. Reports and recommendations are made from the Committee to the Authority as appropriate.
We have brought together an international panel of experts to advise on horizon scanning issues. Members of the Horizon Scanning Panel communicate over the internet and are regularly sent questionnaires regarding horizon scannning issues. Read more about the panel.
