Dr Alan Thornhill


Dr Thornhill currently works for Illumina in the market development team with the unit of Reproductive and Genetic Health. Dr Thornhill has worked in the field of reproductive biology for 20 years and has been a clinical embryologist for more than 15 years, working in public and private sector IVF centres in the UK (Kings College Hospital, St Thomas’ Hospital, London Fertility Centre, The Bridge Centre, Guys Hospital) and US (Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota).

Dr Thornhill obtained his PhD from the University of London on the “Effects of the Sex Chromosomes on early growth and development in the Mouse”.

Dr Thornhill has served as Deputy Chair of the European Society of Human Reprodiction and Embryology (ESHRE) PGD Consortium and Chair of Alpha-Scientists in Reproductive Medicine and a is member of the Progress Educational Trust Advisory Board. He has over 100 publications in fertility and genetics and is regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences.

Dr Thornhill makes frequent contributions to print and broadcast media discussing assisted reproduction and reproductive genetics, and his television appearances include Channel 4’s ‘Embarrassing Bodies’ and ‘Cutting Edge’.
