New Chief Executive to advance HFEA modernisation

Introducing the newly appointed interim Chief Executive of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, Angela McNab, the Authority Chair, Suzi Leather, said she was sure that Ms McNab was the right person to take forward the Authority's modernisation agenda.

Suzi Leather said:

´Angela McNab has an impressive record of managing change within the health sector. As a Chief Executive in the NHS she delivered the highest performance ratings in London for a Primary Care Trust. At the Department of Health, Angela has been involved in the development of national policy and strategic planning. I am confident that she has the right skills to lead the HFEA through a period of rigorous improvement.'

Angela McNab said:

´The HFEA rightly has an international reputation as the most effective and thorough regulator of infertility services and embryo research. But the HFEA cannot rest on its laurels. The challenges of 21st century treatment and research require a 21st century regulator. I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with the Authority to achieve this.  Clearly, the HFEA has funding issues that must be addressed. But patients, licensed centres and Ministers must be confident that the HFEA can deliver a robust, cost effective service in return for any increase in fees and Government funding.'
