Summary of request

The Authority was asked for information concerning embryo testing in the interest of producing 'designer babies'.

HFEA response

Since the information held by the HFEA relates to the regulated use of IVF in the UK, we do not have any relevant recorded information as creating ‘designer babies’, i.e. selecting embryos based on the personal/aesthetic qualities desired for a child, is illegal.
