Summary of request

The Authority was asked for information regarding the number and details of women from overseas countries having IVF in the UK.

HFEA response

Please note that the information in the table below is extracted from the data that the fertility sector provides us and is liable to change if the centres make amendments to their data.

The spreadsheet is split into a number of tabs. The first three relate to the data for the most recent three years’ worth of generic IVF treatments (IVF and ICSI). The final three relate to the same period but contain data for DI treatments. For the number of patients coming to the UK for treatment please see tables 1 of the attached spread sheet. I hope these tables are self-explanatory.

Tables 2 show the regions in the UK these women have been treated in. These have been split into treatment types as requested to illustrate the types of treatment these women have received. Very small numbers have been replaced with ‘<5’. This is to protect the anonymity of those patients to whom the HFEA owe a duty of care.

The final tables (tables 3) show the continent of origin of these patient groups.
