Summary of request
The Authority was asked for the number of incidents reported to the HFEA of PGD misdiagnosis where a pregnancy was subsequently achieved between 1995 and 2012. for each case the Authority was asked for the condition type and the number of such cases where the pregnancy was temrinated and the number that resulted in a live birth.
HFEA response
A search of the HFEA's incident database shows that there have been three incidents reported to the HFEA of PGD misdiagnosis where a pregnancy was subsequently achieved. Two resulted in a live birth and one resulted in termination of the pregnancy. These reported cases concerned Mucolipidosis Type II, Tay-Sachs and a chromosome 15 rearrangement.
