FAQs for donors re-registering as identifiable
We have listed a short number of frequently asked questions to help you understand how the donor re-registation service works.
If there is anything you would like to know that is not covered here or on the donor information section then please contact us at openingtheregister@hfea.gov.uk
What do you need from me to re-register?
Please complete visit the re-register as an identifiable donor page and complete the re-register form submit it to the HFEA with the relevant ID docs.
Do I need to provide all the information you have requested?
ID documents must be supplied and your most recent contact details are important to enable people to contact you
Who will contact me and do I need to respond?
The HFEA will try to contact you using the details held on file to let you know that a request for your contact details has been made. Whether a donor-conceived person themselves wants to initiate contact or simply wants the information we cannot predict but it may be best to prepare for the fact that they will.
What if I change my mind and want to be anonymised again?
Once you agree to be identifiable you cannot change you mind at a later date, this is why the HFEA recommends that you think the decision through before you re-register.
If I re-register do my legal obligations change?
No, all legal obligations and consents remain the same, you are simply giving anyone born as a result of your donation the opportunity to find you if they chose so once they reach the age of 18.
