For donor-conceived people

FAQs about requesting donor information

We have listed a short number of frequently asked questions to help you with the donor re-registration service.

If there is anything you would like to know that is not covered here or on the donor-conceived information section then please contact us at openingtheregister@hfea.gov.uk

I have lost my reference number what do I need to do?

If you want a copy of the original letter sent by the HFEA you will need to re-apply for information.

Can I call up in-between the three-month update period to check if my donor is re-registered?

The HFEA cannot give out information over the phone so it is best to wait for each update.

Do I need to keep checking back on the site or will you let me know?

You will need to keep checking the site, one of the reasons the HFEA is using this method is to ensure they don’t risk breaching your confidentiality if you change your contact details.

What information will I get about my donor?

That will depend on what the donor has supplied and your age, for example if the donor has re-registered as identifiable and you are under 16 there will be no additional information given but if you are over 18 then you can be given the donors name, date of birth and any contact details supplied.
