Information for past applicants
This page is for donor-conceived people and parents who have an anonymous donor and have previously applied for information from the HFEA.
Donors who donated anonymously before 1 April 2005 have the right to remove their anonymity by re-registering to be identifiable. Some donors have chosen to do this, therefore, if you previously applied for information from the HFEA register and your donor was anonymous, you can use this page to check if they have since re-registered as identifiable.
The response letter you received when you last applied to the HFEA will have a reference number in the following format O-year-00123 or year-00123. If this reference number is published on the list below this means your donor is now identifiable.
| Reference number | Added |
|---|---|
| O-2011-0146 | February 2013 |
| O-2010-00238 | May 2013 |
What does this mean for me?
I am a donor-conceived person
If you are over 16 years of age but not yet 18 we can supply you with an updated letter confirming the donor will be identifiable to you when you turn 18.
If you are 18 years of age or over you can apply to the HFEA for identifying information about your donor, such as:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Contact details supplied to the register.
For information please visit our applying for information about your donor page.
I am a parent
The HFEA can supply you with an updated letter to share with your child confirming the donor will be identifiable to them when they turn 18. For information on how to apply to the HFEA please see our applying for information for parents page.
If your original application involved more than one donor you will need to apply to the HFEA to confirm which donor it refers to.
Frequently Asked Questions
I have lost my reference number what do I need to do?
If you want a copy of the original letter sent by the HFEA you will need to re-apply for information.
Can I call up in-between the three-month update period to check if my donor is re-registered?
The HFEA cannot give out information over the phone so it is best to wait for each update.
Do I need to keep checking back on the site or will you let me know?
You will need to keep checking the site. One of the reasons the HFEA is using this method is to ensure we don’t risk breaching your confidentiality if you change your contact details.
