F-2012-00033 – Treatment type and volume provided by centres

Summary of request

The Authority was asked for three pieces of information about HFEA licensed treatment taking place in the UK and a response to each is set out below.

 

HFEA response

1. The analysis of treatment funding and licensed centre type as seen in a previous FOI (F-2010-00315) for the year 2010.

- See Release Package 1. This information was extracted from the HFEA’s data warehouse containing Register data on 02/03/2012. Please note that the information in our database may be subject to change as licensed centres notify us of information that updates or corrects information they have previously supplied. Outcomes up to 31 December 2009 and cycle data up to 31 December 2010 have been subject to a preliminary verification process, and the centres that supplied the data have been asked to confirm their accuracy, for which they remain responsible. I am pleased to say that, contrary to my previous advice, our analyst has been able to use the centre type categories seen in the previous FOI, which was your preference for how the data be presented.

The HFEA did not start recording treatment funding until late 2007 and the ‘not recorded’ category seen in the tables simply reflects the lag time in clinics adapting to this change in reporting requirements. Any differences in the data attached and that released under the previous FOI are most likely to be caused by clinics updating and correcting information submitted to us.

2. The number of IVF cycles carried out at each HFEA licensed centre in each year available since 2007

- The information requested is routinely published under the Authority’s Publication Scheme and can be found on the Authority’s website at the following link: http://guide.hfea.gov.uk/guide/AllClinics.aspx?x=A . The HFEA has recently also published relevant long term data on this here: http://www.hfea.gov.uk/6771.html . As the information requested is reasonably accessible via the HFEA website, it is exempt from disclosure under section 21 FOIA.

3. For each year available since 2007 in each region of the UK the:
a) number of clinics performing IVF
b) the number of clinics performing DI
c) the number of women treated
d) the number of cycles of IVF carried out
e) the number of cycles of DI carried out
