The Authority was asked for information about the number of births following 2 and 3 embryo transfer for a woman age 40 and the number of multiple births following 2 and 3 embryo transfer for a woman age 40

The relevant data is in the attached document. The data is presented slightly differently to how we normally present data, because it is specifically on the number of embryos being transferred. We normally present live birth rates (LBR) by the number of cycles started; as some cycles fail before getting to the embryo transfer stage, the denominator for the statistics is smaller, making the percentages appear higher. The LBR per cycle for women aged 40-42 (fresh cycles, using the woman’s own eggs) was 12.5% for 2008 and 12.7% for 2009.
