Summary of request

The Authority was asked for the number, or approximate number, of frozen embryos in storage in the UK. 

HFEA repsonse

Unfortunately we do not hold the requested information. This is because we do not monitor when embryos which have been donated to research are actually used or whether they continue to be stored. The following data we released as part of a response to another Freedom of Information request last year may be of interest: http://www.hfea.gov.uk/6254.html . The column headed ‘Embryos stored for patient’ states how many embryos were frozen for the patients’ future use each year.
