Summary of request
The Authority was asked for information about the number of donor and parnter IUI cycles in 2009 and the number of private and NHS centres licensed by the HFEA.

1. The number of IUI cycles in the most recent year available and separated into those using donor and partner sperm.
This information has been extracted from our database for the year 2009 and is set out in the table attached. This data was extracted from the HFEA data warehouse on 31/03/2011. Please note that the information in our database may be subject to change as licensed centres notify us of information that updates or corrects information they have previously supplied.

2. The number of private and NHS fertility treatment centres licensed by the HFEA.
Centres providing fertility treatment are asked to inform the HFEA, when they apply for or renew their HFEA licence, if the centre is an NHS facility or a private operation. Applicants can select from the following options: i) NHS only, ii) NHS/Private Partnership, or iii) Private only. According to our current records the number of centres reporting each option are:
i) NHS only - 48
ii) NHS/Private Partnership - 21
iii) Private only - 37
Please note that our records indicate NHS or Private status but that any centre may provide treatment for both private and NHS funded patients. Information about whether a centre provides treatment for private and/or NHS funded patients can be found on our website via our online directory of clinics at: http://guide.hfea.gov.uk/guide/ .
