Summary of request

The Authority was asked for information about the culture media components listed in the report ‘CJD Policy co-ordination group –Transmission risk in media used in Fertility Treatment’, in particular human sourced alpha beta globulins. 

HFEA response

Following the preliminary survey findings reported in ‘CJD Policy co-ordination group –Transmission risk in media used in Fertility Treatment’, the Authority continued to work on the issues of risk of transmission and regulation of embryo culture media. We have now searched our records and found that the Authority did not carry out any further detailed survey work following the above report and holds no further detailed information about the materials referred to.

We do however hold some records associated with the Authority’s continuing work on the issues. This includes records such as committee papers, briefings and correspondence, and the two most recent committee discussions regarding embryo culture media are available on our website.
