F-2011-00197 – Age of women receiving fertility treatment

Summary of request

The Authority was asked for information about the age of women receiving fertility treatment at HFEA licensed centres in 2009.

HFEA response

The HFEA publishes information about the age of women receiving treatment at each centre via the online clinic directory ‘Choose a Fertility Clinic’ at: http://guide.hfea.gov.uk/guide/AdvancedSearch.aspx . This directory contains the most recent validated data available for each clinic, please note that this is June 2010 for pregnancy data and June 2009 for birth data. The directory shows the number of treatment cycles split by age of patient for fresh or frozen cycles and treatment type. As this information is reasonably accessible via the HFEA website, it is exempt from disclosure under section 21 FOIA.

It may also be useful to look through the Anonymous Register that the HFEA publishes at: http://www.hfea.gov.uk/5874.html . This gives raw data from our register and more information about cause of infertility and exact treatment / outcomes, although it does not distinguish between licensed centres. A user guide to the anonymous Register is available on our website at: http://www.hfea.gov.uk/docs/2010-04-26_Anonymised_Register_User_Guide_SN_DESIGN.pdf  .
