Summary of request
The Authority was asked for information about the number of applications to use PGD to test for abnormality that the HFEA has refused in the last few years and for advice about whether licences may be given to carry out PGD and PGS on the same embryo at the same time.
HFEA response
In the last two years the HFEA has declined to authorise one application for PGD for one genetic disorder.
The HFEA may license centres to carry out PGD and to carry out PGS. The combined use of PGD and PGS on the same embryo is not a separately licensable activity.
