Summary of request

The Authority was asked a series of questions about its staffing, premises policies and activities.

HFEA response

The informaton requested and the Authority's response to each request are set out below.

1. The introductory note submission your organisation made to its lead Government Minister since the Coalition Government took office on 12 May.

A submission was not made by the HFEA, nor were we invited to make one.

2. The number of staff employed by your organisation on 12 May

On 12 May 2010 the HFEA had 83 employees.

3. The number of staff employed by your organisation on 6 October

On 6 October 2010 the HFEA had 81 employees and 13 temporary project staff on fixed term contracts until 31 March 2011. The temporary staff have been engaged  to work on projects authorized before the election.

4. Any submissions made to government departments on the effects of budget cuts on your organization

In 2009/10, the Department reduced Grant in Aid for revenue purposes by £460,000 during the year.  For 2009/10 the budget was £2,397,000 and we were allocated £1,937,000 after the reduction.  For 2010/11, the budget offered and agreed for revenue Grant in Aid is £2,136,000

5. Any notices given to trade union, or employee representatives, regarding staffing cuts to your organization

No notices regarding staff cuts have been issued to staff. The HFEA has an extensive process of staff engagement which includes a Staff Forum where the HR Manager keeps staff representatives informed of any issues affecting HFEA staff. In addition, the Chief Executive holds fortnightly ‘All staff briefings’ where staff are briefed on all HFEA activities which would include any recent developments within the ALB Review. As of today, there have been no reductions in permanent staff.

6. Any notices of re-arranged pension arrangements for staff.

There have been no such notices issued.

7. Details of any subscriptions to online news outlets such as Politics Home, The Times, The Sun, News of the World etc.

The HFEA has a subscription to Durrants.

8. Any submissions made by your organisation in the run up to the Comprehensive Spending review.

The HFEA has not been asked for, nor has provided, any submissions for the Comprehensive Spending Review. The HFEA have regular contact with the DH Sponsor team regarding the ALB and Comprehensive Spending Reviews.

9. How many times the Chief Executive of your organisation has met with a Government Minister since 12 May. Please tell me the nature and location for any such meetings.

The Chief Executive has not had any meetings with a Government Minister since 12 May 2010.

10. Provide me with a copy of your organisation's travel policy - in particular in respect of planes, trains and cars.

The HFEA’s Travel Policy is attached.  

11. The number of properties (a) owned, and (b) leased by your organisation.

We own no property and lease one floor in a multi-tenanted building.
