Summary of request

The Authority was asked for information about the percentage of sperm donors who are of Asian origin. 

HFEA response

A donor’s ethnicity is reported to the HFEA on the Donor Information form.  The HFEA holds donor information forms from 1 August 1991 to the present on its register.  The information in the attached document, extracted from the HFEA’s data warehouse on 5 October 2008, contains this information for donors from 2000 – 2006.  It should be noted that successive versions of the donor information form have used different classification schemes.  The period during which each form was in use can be found from the Directions bringing them into force, available at http://www.hfea.gov.uk/188.html.
