2. For each individual in Q.1 please state (a) how many cycles have been taken from that donor and (b) how many babies have been born from eggs taken in those cycles?

HFEA Response

It is important to note when reading the data provided that some individuals have registered with more than one HFEA licensed clinic. Clinics notify the HFEA of each new registration and as a result, in some instances, data  about that individual may be duplicated on the Authority's register.

This has been identified and is currently being addressed by the Authority through the allocation of unique codes for all individuals on the register.  This is an ongoing process and the figures provided may be subject to change as the register is updated following the identification of any duplicate registrations.

1. Please see the first tab of the attached spreadsheet.

2. Please see first tab of attached spreadsheet.

3. Patient's partners are expected to complete a registration form prior to their partner undertaking treatment at any HFEA licensed clinic.  Among other details, the partner is asked to record his/her sex but  specific information on the status of their relationship is not collected.  The data provided in the spreadsheet attached infers a relationship from information about the partner's sex  and in instances where no partner information is provided, it is inferred that the patient is single.

4. Please see the second tab of the spreadsheet attached.

5.  The HFEA does not receive sperm donations; this is a licensable activity undertaken by clinics licensed by the Authority.  Details of clinics licensed to receive sperm donations can be found on the Authority's 'Choose a Fertility Clinic' service.

6. The Authority does not collect information about waiting times for sperm donation. There is however some information about waiting times for treatment at licensed clinics on the 'Choose a Fertility Clinic' area of the Authority's website.  The information about waiting times is submitted to the Authority's website by the clinics themselves via a clinic a portal. The Authority does not collect or collate this information. Prior to treatment clinics are expected to provide patients with information about waiting times (see Guidance Note 4.2 of the HFEA Code or Practice).  For any further information regarding waiting times for specific treatments we would recommend contacting clinics directly; contact details can be found on Choose a Fertility Clinic'.

7. 2008 = 13 special directions were issued for the import of sperm and 2009 = 6 special directions were issued for the import of sperm.
