Swine flu – contingency plans

Have you considered what you need to do to mitigate the impact of swine flu on your clinic?

How can you minimise the risk of infection? What would you do if a high number of staff became ill? How would you manage your clinic’s workload?

In addition to the general ‘catch it, kill it’ advice, the Department of Health has provided specific guidance to healthcare organisations.

The Department of Health has also published guidance on making contingency plans.  See:

Clinics are reminded that the HFEA’s 8th Code of Practice requires that they:

  • are equipped with backup and emergency clinical facilities that are equivalent to those provided as standard practice in other medical facilities.

    See guidance note 25.11
  • have adequate staffing and funding to implement formal emergency procedures, including having on-call arrangements, to maintain safe cryopreservation of embryos and gametes.

    See guidance note 26.4
