Eggs or sperm stored prior to 1 October 2009 whose storage period ends before 1 October 2009
The storage period can be extended up to the gamete provider’s 55th birthday, provided that conditions outlined in the Human Fertilisation and Embryology (Statutory Storage Period) Regulations 1991 are met.
If the conditions for extended storage are not met, or the gametes have already been stored up to the gamete provider’s 55th birthday, then the gametes must be allowed to perish on the date the storage period expires.
Consent forms
If gamete providers consent to extension of egg or sperm storage before 1 October 2009 (for extension under the1991 regulations) they should complete the WS or MS forms.
