Renewing an existing licence

Before your clinic’s treatment and storage licence is due for renewal, the HFEA will send you a reminder to complete your renewal application form.

You are required to complete the licence renewal form and a self-assessment questionnaire and submit any supporting documentation (as specified in the relevant Directions) to aid us in the assessment of your clinic.

From 6 April 2010 all treatment or research licence variation forms can be completed via the Clinic Portal.

Renewal inspections

For a centre whose licence is coming up for renewal a renewal inspection will need to take place. To help us assess the overall quality of the service a centre provides, an inspection team will examine how well the guidance and legislation is being met.

The HFEA will contact you to let you know the date of the licence renewal inspection.

Renewal inspections take place approximately five months before your licence is due to expire. All centres will receive a pre-inspection pack and required documentation must be returned at least six weeks before the inspection is due to take place.
