Review of the HFE Act - Response to Government consultation
In May 2005 the HFEA identified a number of areas in the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990 where the legislation presented difficulties or challenges in the smooth and proportionate running of the regulatory system for fertility treatment and embryo research.
In particular, the HFEA considered the implications of the implementation of the European Tissues and Cells Directive and the proposals to bring the HFEA and the Human Tissue Authority together into a single body.
The HFEA brought together these recommendations in a formal response to the Government's consultation on the review of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act. These were approved by the Authority in November 2005.
