HFEA statement on a licence to screen for homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia

On 5th December 2007, an HFEA Licence Committee granted University College Hospital London a licence to carry out preimplantation genetic diagnosis for the avoidance of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.
The licence has only been granted for the homozygous (more serious) form of the condition. The more common heterozygous form, which is treatable, has not been included in this licence.
