Egg share donors and non-patient egg donors
Number of egg donors by the year they first registered as a donor at an
HFEA licensed clinic, 1992-2008
- Egg donors can either donate all their eggs in a treatment cycle (non-patient egg donors) or share their eggs with up to two recipients in each cycle (egg share donors).
- The table and graph below compare the number of egg donors who shared their eggs (egg share) compared to those who donated all their eggs (non-patient egg donors).
- Egg sharers can donate up to a maximum of two recipients in any one treatment cycle.
- If donors underwent another egg donation cycle (at the same clinic or elsewhere) or donated in a subsequent year, they will not be counted as a new donor again.
- A number of surrogacy treatments will be reflected in these figures. If a surrogate receives embryos created using the commissioning woman’s own eggs, the commissioning woman must be registered as a donor.
