After you are licensed

Research licences may be granted for up to three years. If a licence is granted for more than one year then centres must submit progress reports on an annual basis. Centres licensed to use embryos to derive embryonic stem cell lines must submit progress reports every six months.

When a research licence expires and is not renewed a centre must inform their inspector in writing.

Licence renewals

When your licence is due to expire if you wish to continue your research project  your centre is required to apply for a licence renewal. You will be contacted by the HFEA who will remind you that you need to renew your licence - the onlince application is available on the Clinic Portal.

Clinic inspections

As with treatment and storage centres, research centres are subject to HFEA inspections. Inspections will follow the submission of both the research progress report and a renewal application form.
