Dear Colleague,
Invitation to the Annual Conference
This letter gives you advance notice of the Authority's 1997 Annual Conference. This year the Conference will he held at the later date of Monday, 15 December at the Royal College of Physicians. We plan to send the Conference programme and registration form to you during the summer. It is expected that the conference will again be a mixture of general sessions and workshops.
The date of the Conference is later this year because, in order to synchronise the data contained in the Patients' Guide and the Annual Report, those two publications will be published in October. In the past Conference delegates have often raised issues mentioned in those documents, and the Authority wanted to ensure that this year's attendees would have the same opportunity.
The Authority is aware that many clinics would like to send more delegates. Clinics may also be aware that the Authority, like other public bodies, is coming under increasing financial pressure. In response to the request for more places the Authority has decided that clinics may send up to three delegates. However, while the Authority is still very happy to invite one delegate from each clinic to attend at the HFEA's expense, it regretably must ask that clinics make a contribution of £50 each for any additional delegate.
As we are still planning the Conference, the Authority is happy to receive suggestions about either the content or format of the day. If you would like to comment, please send your comments to me by 6th May.
I know that the Conference has proved itself to be a useful and stimulating forum. The Authority confidently believes that the 1997 Conference will continue this tradition and enable and encourage a useful exchange or ideas, views and opinions.
Yours sincerely
Suzanne McCarthy
Chief Executive
