Dear Director

Public Consultation: Donated Ovarian Tissue in Embryo Research and Assisted Conception

You will recall that in our second annual report, published in July last year, we said that we would be consulting on the potential use of fetal ovarian tissue in infertility treatment or research.

You will no doubt also be aware of the publicity that this issue has attracted in recent days. We therefore decided to bring forward publication of our consultation document, and this was launched this morning. I enclose a copy of the report and the Press Release which we have just issued.

We are looking forward to wide consultation and debate, and I would very much welcome your views on the issues that have been raised in the document.

I look forward to receiving your response by 1 June 1994.
