USE OF HOS TEST PRIOR TO LICENSED TREATMENT

I am writing to you regarding the use of the HOS (Hypo-osmotic swelling) test prior to licensed treatment.

The HFEA's Working Group on New Developments in Reproductive Technology has recently reviewed the evidence regarding the safety and efficacy of this technique.

As a result of this review the HFEA has decided that centres do not need to apply to vary their treatment licence to include the HOS test as a licensable activity.

Centres wishing to use this technique prior to licensed treatment are requested to inform the HFEA and to provide copies of the relevant patient information, standard operating procedures, and consent forms.
