A summary of the meeting of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority in October 2000
At this meeting of the HFEA, the Members discussed the recruitment of sperm donors by licensed centres. It was agreed that in future the upper age limit should be reduced from 55 to 45 years. In addition, the Members considered the way in which the maximum number of children that may be born per donor is calculated. It was agreed that ten live birth events should be allowed per donor. Members also discussed the number of embryos that should be transferred per IVF cycle and agreed this would need further consideration. Members also discussed and agreed new Directions for the licensing of transport IVF.
Reports were presented by the Organisation and Finance Committee, the Authority's Strategy group and the Information Committee.
