  • Preimplantation tissue typing

    In 2004 the HFEA carried out a review of its policy on preimplantation tissue typing. This new technique allows the selection of an embryo to produce a child who can provide a matched tissue donation to an existing brother or sister

  • Choices and boundaries (PGD)

    In 2005 and 2006 the HFEA carried out a policy review on the use of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) for ‘lower penetrance' cancer conditions such as inherited breast cancer, and bowel cancer.

  • Sex selection

    The HFEA conducted a review of sex selection techniques. The review included discussions on the technique's safety, reliability and arrangements for regulation.
