Dear colleague,

HFEA FEES INCREASE 2004/5.

I am writing to confirm the 3% increase in the additional fees levied by the HFEA, which I announced at the Annual Conference on 21st January 2004. This will result in treatment fee levels of:

• IVF Fee (incl. ICSI) £103
• Dl Fee £51

Other fees remain unchanged. To ensure clinics have adequate notice, the fee increases will take effect from 1st May 2004.

The need for an annual review of fee levels was established as part of the major increase in funding for the HFEA agreed in 2002. Clinics were notified of this in the letter of 1st October 2002 from the Chief Executive. The rise in 2004/5, approved by the Treasury, will cover increases in the Authority's operational costs, and will support the continued strengthening of regulation by the HFEA.

These new fees will apply to all treatment cycles on returns received by the HFEA from 1st May 2004, irrespective of treatment date. All cycles reported to HFEA on returns up to 30th April 2004 will be charged at the old, lower rates.

We will write to you again shortly with detailed guidelines on the new fees.
